TEN MILE FARM is a small scale, diversified vegetable farm.  We currently lease about 3 acres of bottom land, in two different spots, in Candler, NC.  These separate parcels are 2 miles apart, but both located on Hominy Creek.  We are commuter farmers - we live in Asheville, and commute each day out to the farm in Candler.  The farm is approximately 10 miles from town where we live, hence our name.  2010 marks our 5th year as commuter farmers.

We provide Asheville’s residents and restaurants with over 40 varieties of vegetables during the growing season, which begins in May and ends at the end of November.  You can connect with us at our stands at the Wednesday Tailgate Market and the Asheville City Market on Saturdays, and we also offer a CSA subscription.

Our approach to farming is a sustainable one.  We use a combination of biodynamic practices, cover crops, rotation and organic approved applications to grow our food.  We believe strong soil grows strong plants, therefore we always invest organic nutrients back into the soil.  We have no interest in applying anything toxic to our plants or our fields.  This choice does make more work for us, and we don’t mind that one bit.
